Are writing classes worth it?

Last year my creativity hit a wall. The articles I had been writing began to feel stale and redundant. I yearned to write on different topics in varying styles. Publish on different platforms.

To date, my writing skill set lacked diversity. The best method for improvement was to take writing classes on various subjects.

Having completed my third writing class of the year last week, here’s some takeaways on writing classes:

#1 Was pushed to write an 1,000 word article (a first for me)

#2 Received feedback from instructor with professional experience

#3 The opportunity to give/receive critique from classmates

#4 Learned of helpful resources to assist with writing (books, websites, etc.)

#5 Enjoyed the social aspect of meeting, talking, learning from other writers

#6 Learned their is always room for improvement. Always something to learn regardless of where one is in their writing career.

#7 I take my craft seriously

#8 Reiterated that writing is hard work

#9 Writing is a process of writing and rewriting

#10 Served as a reminder to get out of the house and meet people in the real world

#11 Opened my mind to new thoughts/experiences and different styles of writing

#12 Felt a confidence boost in myself as a writer

Overall, the classes I’ve taken thus far have fulfilled my objectives. I look forward in taking more classes in the future. When your serious about your craft, the willingness to learn and improve is always there.
